Zeffirelli’s production of La Boh\u00e8me at La Scala in Milan was such a resounding success that Herbert von Karajan and Zeffirelli were compelled to turn it into an opera film. The soundtrack, featuring the choir and orchestra of the Milan Scala and the renowned ensemble of Mirella Freni, Gianni Raimondi, Rolando Panerai, Ivo Vinco, Gianni Maffeo, Adriana Martino, was recorded first. The stage was recreated in a film studio and the\u00a0 production was shot in Technicolor \u2013 the best film technology available at the time. \u00a0The young Mirella Freni, who sang the role of Mim\u00ec for over 50 years, gained fame the world over, not least because of her natural and pure voice.<\/p>\n

The screen adaptation of Puccini’s masterpiece of La Boh\u00e8me was a bold attempt to marry the art of film with the opera stage. Zeffirelli’s staging and the film’s international success have made La Boh\u00e8me one of the most-performed operas of all time. The original production has been revived again and again and is still performed today.<\/p>\n

South African soprano Pretty Yende, who was a student of Mirella Freni and later sang in Franco Zeffirelli’s production of La Boh\u00e8me, recounts her experiences with her mentor. As a very young tenor, Franco-Italian singer Roberto Alagna sang alongside Mirella Freni in the Zeffirelli production and is grateful to count himself among the great tenors, alongside Pavarotti and Carreras \u2013 thanks in large part to this performance of La Boh\u00e8me.<\/p>\n

Zeffirellis Inszenierung der La Boh\u00e8me an der Mail\u00e4nder Scala hatte einen derart \u00fcberw\u00e4ltigenden Erfolg, dass Herbert von Karajan und Zeffirelli beschlossen, daraus einen Opernfilm zu machen. Die Tonspur mit dem Chor und Orchester der Mail\u00e4nder Scala und dem Spitzenensemble bestehend aus Mirella Freni, Gianni Raimondi, Rolando Panerai, Ivo Vinco, Gianni Maffeo, Adriana Martino wurde zuerst aufgenommen. Die B\u00fchne wurde dann in einem Filmstudio nachgebaut und in Technicolor, der damals besten Filmtechnik gedreht. \u00a0Die junge Mirella Freni, die die Rolle der Mim\u00ec \u00fcber 50 Jahre lang singt, wird nicht zuletzt wegen ihrer nat\u00fcrlichen und reinen Stimme weltber\u00fchmt.<\/p>

Die Verfilmung von Puccinis Meisterwerk \u201eLa Boh\u00e8me\u201c ist der Versuch, Spielfilm und Opernb\u00fchne zu verbinden. Erst Zeffirellis Inszenierung und der internationale Erfolg des Films machten La Boh\u00e8me zu einer der bis heute meistgespielten Opern. Die urspr\u00fcngliche Inszenierung wurde immer wieder aufgegriffen und wird bis heute gespielt.<\/p>

Die s\u00fcdafrikanische Sopranistin Pretty Yende, die sp\u00e4ter selbst in der Franco Zeffirelli Inszenierung \u201eLa Boh\u00e8me\u201c sang und Sch\u00fclerin von Mirella Freni war, erz\u00e4hlt von ihren Erfahrungen mit ihr. Der franko-italienische S\u00e4nger Roberto Alagna sang in der Zeffirelli-Inszenierung als blutjunger Tenor an der Seite von Mirella Freni und ist bis heute dankbar, sich durch diese \u201eLa Boh\u00e8me\u201c neben Pavarotti und Carreras zu den gro\u00dfen Ten\u00f6ren z\u00e4hlen zu d\u00fcrfen.<\/p>
